Albany-- An Army depot in Texas that's fighting to get off the BRAC list may affect the future of the Albany Marine base.

Some of the duties performed at the Red River Army Depot in Texarkana are to be shifted to MCLB Albany. If Red River wins its fight to get off the proposed closure list, that could mean less expansion of MCLB.

Chamber of Commerce President Tim Martin says he feels MCLB is not in jeopardy of being added to the closure list, but he says an expansion this year could help save the base during the next round of BRAC. "These next couple weeks we are going to maintain are vigilance to make sure as they point fingers, we've got our defensive up and our arguments prepared to ward off any changes in the list."

Under the proposed BRAC recommendations, MCLB is set to get 150 jobs, mostly in the maintenance depot.

The BRAC report calls for MCLB to lose 42 defense logistics agency jobs to Robins Air Force Base.
