Valdosta - A South Georgia police department is getting a new tool to help in emergency situations.

The Valdosta Police Department received a $275,000 grant from the Office of Homeland Defense to buy a new mobile command unit. The 34 foot trailer will include a conference room, dispatching station, and allow a dozen agencies to communicate at one time.

"Its going to provide a place where we can receive critical information and we'll have key decision makers in this conference room where they can make decisions on how to respond to disasters," said Captain Brian Childress.

The police deparment hopes to have the new command center by the end of the year.
