Valdosta - The deadline is quickly approaching for families who have been annexed into the city of Valdosta but still want their kids to attend Lowndes County schools.

The Valdosta City Council recently voted to annex several county islands into the city. The change will affect about 240 kids in the Lowndes County school system.

If you still want your kids to attend county schools, you have to submit a formal request to the school board by next Wednesday. "If they want to go to the city schools, we support their decision, but we're tying to create a situation where we'll know what accommodations need to be made for the future and we've given them a June 15th deadline to get all that paperwork in," said Dr. Steve Smith, Superintendent.

The request forms can be picked up at the Board of Education or downloaded on the county school system's web site.
