Albany-- Wednesday was not a total loss for Lee County senior Buster Posey. Although he was unable to hoist a state championship trophy, Posey was selected in the 50th round of the major league draft Wednesday by the Los Angeles Angels.
Posey, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Georgia this season, finished his senior year with a school record 14 home runs and was 11 and 1 on the mound. Posey says he will not enter the draft and instead will attend Florida State on a scholarship.
Former Lee County standout Kyle Keen also getting drafted today. Keen was selected in the 37th round by the Chicago Cubs.
The University of Georgia centerfielder led the team in batting this year with a .320 average and finished the year with a perfect fielding percentage.
