Albany--Tifton's David Denham will be among the 156 players teeing it up next week in the U.S. Open and he has PGA tour player Jonathan Kaye's wife to thank for it.
Denham was the first alternate after a qualifying round in Lakeland Florida, but got a spot in this week's sectional qualifier after Kaye backed out to be with his pregnant wife.
|Denham took full advantage of the opportunity firing a 64 and a 67 for an 11 under par, snagging one of the 22 available spots at the Woodmont Country Club qualifier in Rockville Maryland.
This caps a huge couple of days for Denham, who Saturday fired an even par 70 to help lead the University of Georgia Bulldogs to their second national championship.
The U.S. Open runs next Thursday through Sunday at Pinehurst Village in North Carolina.
