Ref:    Person jumping from bridge

On Wednesday, June 08, 2005, at approximately 12:15PM, the Dooly County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a motorist on Interstate I-75 of a person jumping from the Shiloh Bridge.  Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival of emergency medical personnel and law enforcement it was determined that the person was deceased.  The person was identified as a white male, 58 years of age.  The name is being with held pending notification of family.

It was learned from witness, that the person was holding onto the pipe railing on the bridge over the outside lane of traffic on the northbound side.  No one else was seen around the area at the time.  Witness stated, that they knew the subject would not be able to hold on very long, and then the subject fell into the right lane of traffic.

Due to the incident the one lane of traffic was blocked for approximately one hour.  Two lanes of traffic were able to continue to flow, keeping traffic from backing up.

The Dooly County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Georgia State Patrol in the incident, Dooly County EMS and the Dooly County Coroner’s Office.
