Albany-- Southwest Georgia's blood supply is critically low. An increase in the need for blood, and a shortage of donors has the Red Cross blood supply of type O positive and negative blood down to less than a half a day's supply.
Red Cross officials say your blood donations are vital to keep supply levels out of a crisis situation as we head into summer.
"Were encouraging donors to come out with the summer coming on. Hurricane season we were shutdown for several day's last year. We lost a lot of blood collection during that time, and so we need folks to come out before hurricanes start and before the fourth of July starts," says Robbin Miller from the Albany Red Cross.
The Albany American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive June 13th through the 18th. If you would like to donate at another time, their office is open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00AM until 7:00PM and Thursday through Saturday from 8:00AM until 2:00PM.
