Albany--A couple of local baseball stars were selected during the first day of the major league baseball amateur draft. Adel native Brandon Durden, a left handed pitcher at Georgia State College and University, was picked 117th overall in the fourth round by the Colorado Rockies. Durden, a Cook High product, also pitched for the Leesburg Post 182 American Legion team.
Also getting drafted Tuesday was Darton College left handed pitcher Craig Pfautz. Pfautz was selected 471st overall in the 16th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Former Southland Academy star Brent Carter was selected just 17 picks later by the San Diego Padres. The left handed pitcher was an All-SEC performer at the University of Alabama.
The major league baseball draft continues on Wednesday.
