Will Cooper unionize?

June 7, 2005

Albany-- Within a couple of days, we should know the answer to that question.

Members of the National Labor Relations Board are on hand to count ballots of Cooper employees as voting runs through Wednesday at the plant on Sylvester Road.

The United Steelworkers Union hopes to organize the nearly 1,500 workers at the plant, which two decades ago housed the Firestone facility. Firestone workers voted the union in, and was closed within a few years.

About 1,320 hourly employees wold be directly affected should the plant opt for union representation.
