Seniors show off new talents

June 1, 2005

Albany-- Thirteen artists 60 and older displayed art at the 12th annual Shades of Gold Art Show at the Carnegie Library. They all take free art lessons through the SOWEGA Council on Aging.

Many never painted before. Others, like Best of Show winner Lillian Marcus, put down the paint brush years ago.

"I did a little bit about 50 years ago, just one painting," said Marcus. "I was so critical of it that I never painted again for another 20 years. Then, I waited for my kids to all grow up, and then it was time to do something when I retired."

Marcus' painting "The Autumn Meadow" won Best in Show. A photograph given to her by her daughter inspired her to paint the work.
