Macon-- A wanted man turns himself in after he was bitten by a snake. Richard Shane Harrell eluded police for more than 36 hours in Hawkinsville, where he was wanted on theft and gun charges.

Wearing handcuffs, he was able to escape from deputies after being caught near the Houston-Pulaski County line. He caught a ride into Hawkinsville, stole a car, and led police on a car chase that ended in a field.

Harrell ran into a wooded area where he says he was bitten by a snake. He was taken to a hospital to determine whether he had, in fact, been bitten.
