Newton- Fallen service men and women are honored every year on Memorial Day.

But they've never been individually honored in Baker County. That changed Monday. The first Memorial Day Celebration was held in Baker County.

There were more than 600 men and women from Baker County who served in both World Wars, the Korean War and Vietnam. Fourteen of them were killed in action.

"On Memorial Day, it's for those who died for our country. And without those people who went over there, we wouldn't be where we're at today," said American Legion Post 141 member Tom Williams, who organized the event.

Williams hopes the celebration will become an annual event in Baker County.
