Albany--Phoebe Putney Health Systems is one of ten non-profit hospitals providing financial information to a U.S. Senate Committee.
Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa asked some of the nation's largest non-profit hospitals about their charitable activities, patient billing, and ventures with for-profit companies and hospitals.
Phoebe administrators are happy to comply with the request and hope it will lead to better oversight and possible legislation.
"Phoebe certainly is pleased to participate in this process, because we have long wanted a forum for us to discuss charitable giving, and tax exempt status. It gives us an opportunity to participate in that policy process which is positive for us," said Vice President of Marketing Cynthia George.
Senator Grassley is chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, which is responsible for tax legislation.
