Cavs' Witcher is ready for nationals

May 23, 2005

Albany - The Darton golf team is not only the number one ranked team in the nation in the National Junior College Division II poll, the Cavaliers also have the number one player.

He is freshman Brent Witcher who has played even better than Darton coach Dale Dover could have hoped with a scoring average of 68 a round.

The Duluth native was recruited by the University of Georgia in high school.

Witcher could not meet the entrance requirements at Georgia and came to Darton College.

Brent Witcher says Darton has been the right place for him not only for his golf game but also his education.

And Brent is looking forward to leading the number one ranked Cavaliers into this week's national tournament.

Brent Witcher said "It has been real good. My grades have been good. I have played well. It is a good team and everybody gets along well.

Darton golf coach Dale Dover said "Like I have said all the time, Brent is probably a better person than he is a golfer. I have enjoyed working with him. He is a joy to work with."

The National Junior College Division II golf tournament starts tomorrow in Scottsboro, Alabama.
