Albany- Albany City Commissioners are ironing out details on an insurance plan that could save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The city is now self insured. Thursday, commissioners decided the city should no longer be responsible for insuring The Parks at Chehaw.City leaders say the change will save tax money.

"We became self insured effective May first it was a decision made in April and we expect ultimately to save taxpayers lots and lots of money," said Kevin Hogencamp, Assistant City Manager.

The city was temporarily self insured several years ago, but Kevin Hogencamp says, they're still learning how to process claims.
