Albany- The President of Albany Technical College is taking a job with the state, but only temporarily.

Dr. Anthony Parker will serve as the interim assistant commissioner of adult literacy for the Department of Technical and Adult Education. Parker says his experiences have taught him the importance of adult literacy.

"Parents that read and write have children that read and write. They encourage their children to do better in school if we're trying to attract industry the base literacy and competition rates of the workforce has a lot to do with what industry is willing to relocate," said Dr. Anthony Parker, Albany Technical College President.

Parker will serve for six months. He says the job should not affect his duties at Albany Tech.
