Washington hurdles tough decision

Bainbridge-- The top high school hurdler in the nation is taking his talents to the SEC. Bainbridge High senior Tavaris Washington signing a track and field scholarship Monday morning with Auburn University.

|Washington is a two time state champion, winning both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles at the state track and field meet this past weekend in Jefferson. He also claimed the top performance trophy in each event for the fastest time in all classifications.

Earlier this year at the Smith-Benson relays, Washington's time of 36.21 seconds in the 300 hurdles was the fastest in the nation. Washington says the chance to join his former teammate Ty Akins at Auburn was a big factor in his decision.

"For one they have a pretty good history as a track program. A couple of other guys from my school have signed there and so that kind of aided in the decision. So basically it was an all around good fit for me," Washington said.

Washington chose the Tigers over Arkansas, Georgia, Clemson, Florida A&M and UCLA.
