Albany--The third time was indeed the charm for the South Georgia Wildcats Saturday night. The Wildcats notched their first ever home victory in a 62-48 win over the Arkansas Twisters at the Albany Civic Center.
South Georgia jumped out to an early lead on the Twisters after Rob Keefe recovered the opening kickoff in the end zone for a touchdown. Keefe later scored on a three yard run to give the Wildcats (2-4) a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
The Twisters (0-6) cut that lead in half on a two yard touchdown pass from Travis Motley to Kevin Whitley. But the Wildcats went into the half with a 28-13 lead after quarterback Bobby Pesavento hit Chris McKinney and Archie Turner for touchdowns in the second quarter.
South Georgia carried that momentum into the second half by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Wildcats have now won two straight heading into Friday night's matchup with the Manchester Wolves.
Kickoff for Friday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Manchester, New Hampshire.
