Valdosta - Helping feed the hungry is as simple as walking to your mailbox this weekend.

Saturday, letter carriers around the country will collect non-perishable food donations. It's the 13th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive, the largest one day food drive in the nation.

All you have to do is fill the plastic bag you received in the mail today with non-perishable food items and leave it in your mailbox. "Food needs are extremely critical this time of year because of summer months, the schools are out, there's more meals that need to be feed at home. We'll collect over 100,000 pounds of food hopefully this weekend and that food will last less than about 12 weeks for us," said Frank Richards, Food Bank Director.

America's Second Harvest Food Bank in Valdosta collected about 83,000 pounds of food in last year's postal food drive.
