Panel appointed, again, to investigate Henry Mathis

Albany - The Governor appointed a panel to investigate indicted Albany commissioner Henry Mathis, again. Governor Perdue decided to use the same three panel members to review whether the new extortion charges Mathis faces adversely affects his ability to serve as city commissioner while he awaits trial.

The panel has 14-days to make a recommendation to the Governor on whether Mathis should be re-suspended. However since they've already heard some of the case, it's not expected to take the full two weeks.

Mathis's federal trial is set for June 6th. Mathis was suspended after the initial federal indictment, but was re-instated when the trial was postponed.
