Gailey upbeat about Jackets hopes in 2005

May 11, 2005

Albany - Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey says he is doing fine after suffering a heart attack two months ago.

The Yellow Jacket program seems to be doing just as well entering the fourth season under the Americus native's watch.

Chan Gailey back in south Georgia Wednesday night talking about the upcoming season with the Albany Georgia Tech club.

The Jackets are ranked 25th in Athlon's preseason poll and other publications are also going to think highly of a Jacket team that returns all-star receiver Calvin Johnson, running back P.J. Daniels and quarterback Reggie Ball.

The Georgia Tech defense should also be strong even though they have lost tackle Darryl Richard for the 2005 due to injury and then today came the news that defensive end Travis Parker won't play because of grades.

Two big losses but coach Gailey still confident this could be a big year for the Jackets.

Chan Gailey said "We feel very excited about this coming season. I mean you have to go out on the field and prove it. We have got a tough schedule but we are excited about what is ahead of us ."

Georgia Tech opens the 2005 season at Auburn on September 3rd.
