Valdosta - A South Georgia city is kicking off a campaign to crack down on litterbugs.

Valdosta city council members have partnered with the Valdosta Police Department to organize a new Litter Enforcement Volunteer Program. Volunteers will be trained to patrol the city and identify violations of the city litter ordinance.

"Litter is a quality of life crime and while its often cosidered a less serious offense, it can lead to more violent crimes like gang activity and drug use," said Councilman James Wright.

The program starts on Friday, May 27th. If you're interested in helping clean up the city, contact the Valdosta Police Department.
