Birmingham, AL.--For the second straight week the South Georgia Wildcats lined up against a team that, like themselves, had yet to win a game all season. But unlike the previous week, the Wildcats built an early lead and were able to hang on to it Saturday night in a 69-49 win over the Birmingham Steeldogs.
The Wildcats (1-4) jumped out to a 35-21 halftime lead before scoring 34 more points in the second half to notch their first win of the season. South Georgia closed out the first half in a fury, scoring 13 points in the final two minutes to build a two touchdown lead.
The Steeldogs could never get closer than that fourteen point deficit as they dropped their fifth straight to open the season.
South Georgia returns home to take on the Arkansas Twisters Saturday night at 7:30p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
