Albany -- Very realistic driver's licenses are being used to cash forged checks in South Georgia. Investigators warn people and businesses they could fool almost anyone.
Three driver's licenses were confiscated by an Albany liquor store when three people tried to cash forged payroll checks. The fake licenses are such good replicas, that even veteran police officers had to examine closely to determine they were bogus.
Dougherty County Police Lt. Stephen Mitchum said "Yeah, they are really good fake licenses. If you don't know what to look for, you would think they were real license."
Businesses in Thomasville, Albany, and North Georgia have cashed forged payroll checks like these. They are usually for fast food restaurants.
The names on the driver's licenses are fake, but the con men and women had to use their real photographs.
If you have any knowledge who is passing these fake licenses, please call the Dougherty County Police at 430-6600.
