Firefighter hopefuls undergo physical testing

Albany -- Prospective Albany firefighters were put to the test Thursday. State law mandates that everyone applying for a job as a firefighter pass a physical agility test.

Thirteen prospective firefighters took the Albany Fire Department's first test, including two women. Captain Ron Rowe said the applicants had to "Wear some of the fire fighting equipment we are required to wear on a daily basis. They are required to raise ladders, simulate chopping different things, drag fire hoses, doing a rescue procedure, things of that nature."

To be certified as firefighter in Georgia, you have to pass this physical agility test. The current firefighters take the same test twice a year, in order to stay on the job.
