Schools thank partners in excellence

Albany -- The Dougherty County School System thanked their Partners in Excellence sponsors Wednesday.

Businesses like Sunnyland Farms, that bought 19 sets of books for the Sylvandale Elementary School first graders. They are presented as books of the month to the students, for them to read.

There are 150 businesses that sponsor 26 schools in the Partners in Excellence programs. Partners in Excellence Director Virginia Monroe said "Mentoring them, tutoring them, providing extra materials. Whatever we do to support them now while they are receiving their education, the more it is going to benefit the business community tomorrow."

The Partners in Excellence program has been helping Dougherty County Schools since 1986.

This year each school has received thousands of dollars in money and goods from their business partners.
