City proposes property tax hike

Tifton- The city is proposing a property tax increase of 2.550 mills. That means taxes on a $100,000 home would increase about $76 a year.

Finance staff members say the increase is needed to offset the rising cost of employee salaries and benefits.

There will three public budget hearings on May 31st, June 2nd, and June 6th. The budget will be adopted on June 20th.
