Albany - The fountain in Riverfront Park downtown will open this summer after all. Dougherty County is bringing in portable restrooms so the fountain will meet state safety standards for zero-depth pools.

The fountain should be open in about three weeks. Public Health o-kayed the use of the portable restrooms this summer as long as a permanent restroom is built during the winter.

"November 1st it will be closed, and then we will start the construction immediately. We will already have a successful bidder for the permanent facility," said County Administrator Richard Crowdis."

The water quality is the pool was never in question. The water is tested three times a day. But public health shut down the fountain until restrooms, an emergency phone, and warning signs were put in.
