Albany, GA--The South Georgia Wildcats' inaugural season in Albany continued its rocky start Saturday night in a 48-39 loss to the Albany Conquest at the James Gray Civic Center.
The Wildcats (0-4) jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the Conquest (1-3) in the first quarter after Bobby Pesavento hit Chris McKinney for a pair of touchdowns. But the Conquest slowly but surely made their way back into the game after Travis Coleman intercepted a Pesavento pass for a touchdown and Albany quarterback D. Bryant hooked up with Manwell Talbert on two more scores to tie the game at 21 at the half.
The second half got started with the Conquest scoring on both offense and defense thanks to another Travis Coleman interception for a touchdown.
South Georgia pulled within one after Adrian Cockfield reeled in a 29 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Wes Virgillo's kick missed the potential game tying extra point. It was one of Virgillo's three failed point after attempts on the night.
The Conquest closed out the game with a Jeff Higgins kickoff return for a touchdown and another Bryant scoring toss with 34 seconds to go in the game.
South Georgia will continue their search for their first win of the season next week against the Birmingham Steeldogs.
