Lifeguards prepare for summer sunning

Albany- They're the first line of defense at the swimming pool and they're in demand in Albany.

The American Red Cross and Albany State University are partnering to offer lifeguard training courses. Future lifeguards are trained in several fields before they are allowed to dive in.

"In this particular class they become fully certified by the American Red Cross they get their lifeguard certification, they get first aid, CPR, AED which is automatic external defibrillator, and oxygen training," said Dr. Wilburn Campbell, ASU Chairman of Physical Education.

Students learned CPR and lifesaving procedures before they got in the pool.

The Albany Parks and Recreation is accepting applications now for summer job openings. You can call the Red Cross for more information about the training.
