Albany--After nearly a year of talks, Albany native and wildlife expert Jim Fowler gets approval to help revitilize The Parks at Chehaw.
Thursday the Chehaw Park Authority gave Fowler's PAWS Incorporated the go ahead to submit a budget and project schedule for revitilization. The city will give Fowler a grant of 25-thousand dollars to get started.
PAWS Incorporated and the Chehaw Authority will work together to secure additional grants from the City.
Chehaw board members were excited about today's decision. Board member Ann Stokes said, "This helps us move forward to have a wonderful park, for all of the people of Albany and surrounding areas and within the state, and other states. I am elated."
This Saturday will be the fifth Saturday in the month, and that means free admission to some of Albany's biggest attractions. The Thronateeska Heritage Center and Weatherbee Planetarium, The Albany Museum of Art, and The Parks at Chehaw will offer free admissions this Saturday to Dougherty and Lee county residents.
In addition to regular park activities, The Parks at Chehaw will hold it's annual fishing derby and Migratory Bird Day at the park.
