Valdosta - After leading Valdosta State to the Division II national championship, Americus' Fabian Walker will get his shot to make an NFL roster.
The Blazer quarterback has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fabian Walker transfered to Valdosta State from Florida State for his senior season.
Despite not playing for almost four years, Walker completed 72% of his passes for more than 3000 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The former Americus High Panther also threw just eight interceptions in 417 attempts has he led Valdotsa State to not only the D-II national title but their fourth Gulf South Conference title in the last five years.
Walker becomes the fifth quarterback on the Tampa Bay roster but the job has to be considered wide open.
Brian Griese replaced Brad Johnson during the 2004 season and rookie Chris Simms started the final game of the regular season.
Johnson has signed with the Minnesota Vikings but Tampa Bay did acquired Luke McCown from Cleveland over the weekend.
