Hethington headed to junior college

April 19, 2005

Cairo - The strength of the Cairo boys and girls basketball team was displayed today with four Syrupmaker players signing college scholarships.

The biggest surprised was Cairo big man Uriah Hethington.

The 6'9" Hethington signed with Division I Middle Tennesee State back in November.

However, Cairo coach Isiah Chance says Hethington's family believes he would be better to start his college career at the junior college level.

So the Region 1-AAA player of the year is now going to Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, Florida.

Hethington averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds a game.

Guard Andrew Johnson is headed to play division two basketball at Carson-Newman.

Johnson averaged 11 points and 7 assists his senior year.

Sandarian Williams, who averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds a game for the Syrupmakers has signed with Wallace State Community College.

Syrupmaid guard LaToya Brown is on her way to Chipola college next year.

The all-region performer averaged 12 points and seven assists a game this season for Lucy Baker's Cairo Syrupmaids.
