Valdosta - Valdosta State may have won a national championship last year but Division II teams like the Blazers do not get to collect the millions in television rights that many Division I teams do.
That is why head coach Chris Hatcher holds his annual celebrity golf tournament at the Valdosta Country Club.
Quarterbacks Tim Couch and Tommie Frazier and a number one assistant coaches from Georgia, Georgia Tech and Florida State were teeing it up to help the Blazers raise money needed so the Blazers can fly to one of their several road games in Arkansas.
Normally that is an exhausting two day trip by bus.
But thanks to the generosity of Valdosta State boosters, the team avoids those long bus rides.
Which is probably why the Blazers under Chris Hatcher have never lost a regular season conference game on the road.
Chris Hatcher said "Your team is a lot fresher. Mentally sharper and you play better and it has really been helpful to us in our success over the course in the past five seasons."
Valdosta State will open the season just a short bus ride away in Fort Valley on August 27th.
