Albany- Georgia homeowners will continue to get a break on their property tax bills.The state legislature agreed to extend the Homeowners Tax Relief credit for two years.
This year alone it will give eligible homeowners a savings that is equal to an eight-thousand dollar homestead exemption. Some lawmakers want to make the discount permanent.
"I'd like to see it in the constitution because then you can't touch it. If it's not in there it can always be taken away," said State Senator Michael Meyer von Bremen.
The savings measure has been in place since 1999. Homeowners can see how much they save by checking the bottom of their tax statements.
