Albany- Retired doctor Charles Gillespie says there are specific rules all doctors must follow in determining if someone is incapable of sustaining life.
He says tests must be done ranging from a body temperature check to MRI's and cranial electrical tests, and he says everything must be documented.
"It's just not an emotional issue as it seems to have been in Florida. I don't think the scientific evidence has ever been presented to the general public who are developing all these emotional opinions from the Florida case," says Gillespie.
Gillespie says it also takes two physicians who aren't involved in the case to re-check the doctor's finding before a final decision is made on whether a patient is incapable of sustaining life.
