Valdosta - The 2004 Division II national champion Valdosta State Blazers will begin defense of that title on the road at Fort Valley State on August 27th.
The game resumes the rivalry between these two D-II powerhouses that was interrupted for two years when Fort Valley State wanted to a schedule a non-conference game with team from the CIAA.
After the road opener at Fort Valley State, Valdosta State will face SIAC champion Albany State, the only team to beat the D-II national champs last year.
The game will be a rematch of the D-II South region final that the Blazers won by scoring 38 unanswered points in the second half for a 38-24 victory over the previously unbeaten and second ranked Golden Rams.
Valdosta State fans will get to see a lot more of their national champions since the Albany State game is the first of six home games at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
The Blazers open Gulf South Conference play the following week against Ouachita Baptist and will also host conference rivals Central Arkansas, Henderson State, North Alabama and West Georgia in the Peach Basket Classic on November 5th.
Homecoming will be October 8th against the Reddies of Henderson State.
The Blazers will face several tough rough road games including an October 1st showdown at Delta State.
