Brooks County - A South Georgia police officer finds himself on the other side of the law.

Valdosta Police officer Kevin Trollinger was arrested early Tuesday morning for driving under the influence, public intoxication, and discharging a firearm while intoxicated.

Around 5:00, a Brooks County deputy heard gun shots in the area around "Spook Bridge" off Blue Springs Road. He found Trollinger and two friends hanging out at the bridge. Investigators say he was drunk and had been shooting his gun in the air.

"If we determine that his conduct was improper, we're not going to tolerate that, we never have tolerated that under Chief Simons' leadership and we're certainly not going to start now," said Captain Brian Childress.

Trollinger is on administrative leave until the department finishes its investigation.
