Albany - The Governor appoints a replacement for suspended Albany commissioner Henry Mathis. Dorothy Brown Hubbard will fill the Ward Two seat until at least the end of Mathis' federal trial.

Hubbard worked for thirty years in higher education before retiring from Albany State University. She was ASU's director of admissions and assistant to the president.

Hubbard is the coordinator of East Albany Neighborhood Program and secretary for Girls, Inc. She's never served a political office but ran for school board in 2002 and was defeated by Willie Weaver.

Last week, the Governor suspended Henry Mathis who's awaiting trial on charges of extortion and lying to law enforcement. His trial is set for April.
