Bainbridge- Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin says law enforcement across the county is now participating in "Project Safe Neighborhoods."

If someone is arrested for carrying a gun during a crime, he may only serve a portion of his sentence if convicted on the state level. But Griffin says "Project Safe Neighborhoods" allows law enforcement to charge the same felon at the federal level. "By carrying them federal, if they get a federal sentence, they'll serve 95 percent of that sentence. If they get 10 years, they'll serve nine and a half years of it," he says.

More than 1 billion dollars in Federal money will be used for new prosecutors, investigators, and training.
