Poulan- Police say, a man driving a stolen car drags a police officer down the highway as he's trying to get away.

Officer James McDowell stopped a speeding car along Highway 82 in Poulan this afternoon. While questioning the driver about the stolen car, the suspect tried to take off dragging McDowell.

Police were able to stop the driver, Brett Townsend, who is now facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, speeding and driving under a suspended license.

Other charges for Townsend are pending. Officer McDowell was taken to the hospital for x-rays and later released with cuts and bruises.
