Cairo trying to prevent problems

Cairo- Cairo city personnel director Terry Holt says new classes will help avoid potential problems before they start.

A drug awareness class will reduce Cairo's workers compensation premiums by 7.5 percent. It will certify the city as a drug-free workplace. Holt says all of the classes are mandatory. "We have an incentive program. If you choose not to attend, we grant you one day off without pay. And so for most people, that's incentive enough to want to attend the class," he says.

Archbold Hospital in Thomasville provides the classes to Cairo for no charge because of the city's standing. It is a member of the "local government risk management services" organization.
