Albany- 7th seeded Lane College showed no signs of fatigue in playing four games in four straight days.
The Dragons shot a blistering 55% percent from the field in the second half to upset top seed Albany State 84-73 in the championship game of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
It is the first ever SIAC tournament title for Lane College(16-15) who earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II regionals.
Tournament most valuable player Jayson Williams led Lane with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
The Dragons, who shot 50% from the field for the game, had four other players in double figures including all-tournament team selections Leroy Douglas with 17 points and Adrain Comer with 11 points. Gary Long had 16 for the Dragons.
Albany State, which missed 23 three point attempts, was led by Gabriel Lee's 28 points and 14 rebounds.
Lee and senior forward Nick Wallery,, who scored 12 points in the championship game, were also all-tournament selections.
Albany State, who last won the SIAC tournament in 1997, finishes the season 18-12.
The upsets continued in the women's championship game where third seeded Paine College won their first ever tournament title by beating Fort Valley State in double overtime 74-72.
Kisha Lucette had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Lions.
