AFD tests new gear

Albany- City firefighters are training on new thermal imaging cameras. The city bought 11 of the new thermal cameras for $130,000. Each fire pumper will be equipped with a thermal camera.

The cameras show heat images, so firefighters can see through blinding smoke and darkness.

"We're able to see better and take less chances. And also find the victims a lot quicker, and put out those fires a lot sooner," said camera instructor Raul Muniz .

The firefighters training should be complete Wednesday. The mounts on the fire trucks for the thermal imaging cameras are being installed, and should be in use by next week.
