Leesburg- Some homeowners could soon pay less for their insurance. Lee County is expanding its fire department.

By keeping most homes within five miles of a fire station, the department can lower its Insurance Service Office rating and save homeowners money.

"Lee County is at fire class protection six. That's the best rating in the county. If you got it lowered to say, like a three, where Dougherty County is rated, then it would probably save you 15%," said Len Whittle, Farm Bureau Insurance.

Lee County has a ten year plan to double the number of firefighters and hopes to build two community fire stations this year.
