Police seize gambling machines

Pelham- City police put a stop to possible illegal gambling in city convenient stores Wednesday.

Officers seized gambling machines from four businesses. Police received complaints that some store owners were paying out cash to people who were winning. Officers haven't found any evidence of that, but according to Georgia law, it's illegal just to have the machines.

"These particular types of machines are considered gambling devices and are, as such, they are illegal and considered contraband," said Sgt. John Sellers, an investigator with the Pelham Police Department.

The store owners will be charged with misdemeanor offenses of illegal possession of gambling devices.
