Albany-
A Dougherty County school is one step closer to becoming a charter school.
Wednesday, the school board voted to allow the International Studies Elementary Magnet School, which used to be Mock Road, to apply for a charter school application. Charter schools don't have to follow all rules that govern other public, and they have the freedom to experiment with different teaching styles.
"We might apply for a waiver so we can offer a combination of something that might be a little bit different from what the state is requiring of all of the other public schools," said Principal Wanda Mallard.
The International Studies Magnet School will still be under the control of the Dougherty County School Board. But the staff will have more flexibility with their programs.
