Albany-- A governor appointed panel recommends indicted Albany Commissioner Henry Mathis be suspended from office.

Wednesday, the three person panel ruled that charges of extortion and giving misleading statements to law enforcement adversely effects Mathis' ability to serve of the city commissioner during his trial.

The governor has 14 days to review and make a decision about Mathis's suspension.

Mathis is accused of voting to give an alcohol license to an Albany nightclub then extorting money from Joe McDonald, a businessman connected to the club. Mathis's trial is tentatively scheduled for April.
