Blazers help with blood shortage

Valdosta - A South Georgia football team is helping remedy the critical blood shortage.

The VSU Blazers hosted their second annual Blazin Blood Drive Monday. Coach Chris Hatcher kicked off the drive by giving the first donation.

Last year's drive collected 205 units for the American Red Cross, and this years is expected to collect even more.

"We talk about wanting people to come out and support us on Saturdays at the ball games and this is a way to show people that we are a big partner in this community and hopefully we'll save a few lives by donating today," said Hatcher.

Each football player was required to give blood today and bring two friends to donate.
