Albany -- The Albany Fire Department will buy new fire suits for all their firefighters, with a Homeland Defense Grant they received Friday.
Chief Jimmy Arrowood will replace the fire suits they are currently using. New materials make the latest pants and coats more protective.
They will buy 165 of the firefighter suits, for around 11-hundred dollars each. Chief Arrowood said "The newer products do protect better, and that's what we are attempting to do, is get the best for our people."
The grant from Homeland Defense will pay for 70 percent the cost of the fire suits, with the city paying the other 30 percent.
Chief Arrowood hopes to have the new fire suits in use in 90 days.
